Science

Science is mandatory for all students from Year 7 to Year 10.

Science 7-10 provides a way of inquiring about the world around us. It explores evidence and investigates ways to discover, develop and produce solutions to real-world problems. Science emphasises the skills for working scientifically, as well as critical and creative thinking to address scientific issues.

In Years 11 and 12, students can choose from different science disciplines, including:

  • Biology
  • Chemistry
  • Earth and Environmental Science
  • Investigating Science
  • Physics.

In Year 12, students who are studying at least one other science subject may also choose to study Science Extension.

Please see the NESA website for course details.

Science is a compulsory subject for Year 7 - 10 and is studied as an elective in Year 11 and 12.

The Science Fair

Think fast, Corroding Chemicals and The dynamics of explosive propulsion were just a few of the 100 odd projects up for display at Mount Annan’s Annual Science Fair. Students from Currans Hill and Mount Annan Public together with our own students from Mount Annan High were competing to show the judges their scientific ‘know how’. It is just one of the ways we celebrate of Science at MAHS.

Junior Scope and Sequence

Fees

Each Science course from Years 7 - 12, has a fee which is used for student consumable items only

By paying this Subject fee, your child may experience more exciting and fun filled experiments as the Science Faculty can spend more money on consumable, one off use, experimental and class use items. For example –glue, pencils, chemicals for experiments, jars and bags for bringing home ‘slime', cups and popcorn for making popcorn, plasticine and toothpicks for making models, cardboard and Textas for mind maps and posters, Plaster of Paris for making fossils, items (kidney, heart etc) for dissection– the list is endless.

The fee also covers the replacement of accidentally broken glassware/equipment to keep the Laboratories stocked and prevent us asking parents to pay for accidental breakages in the Laboratory.
