PDHPE Stage 4 and 5

Stage 4 & 5 Personal development, health and physical education

The study of PDHPE in Years 7-10 provides students with the opportunity to enhance and develop resilience and connectedness and learn to interact respectfully with others.

Through PDHPE, students develop self-management, interpersonal and movement skills to help them become empowered, self-confident and socially responsible citizens. Students learn in movement, about movement and through movement and are given opportunities to apply and adapt their skills across multiple contexts. The learning experiences in PDHPE provide students with a foundation to actively contribute to, and advocate for, the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others in the community and beyond school. (NESA, 2018)

Sensitive issues

Learning in PDHPE reflects the dynamic nature of health, safety, wellbeing and participation in physical activity in the context of a diverse and rapidly changing society. It addresses health and physical activity concepts of importance to students and highlights the influences that contextual factors have on personal values, attitudes and behaviours. PDHPE provides students with an experiential curriculum that is contemporary, relevant, challenging and physically active. The syllabus is designed to give all schools flexibility to treat sensitive issues in a manner reflective of their own context and ethos. (NESA, 2018)

The greatest care will be taken by staff to facilitate a respectful and constructive exploration of the content and concepts in relation to sensitive issues related to relationships, drugs, sexuality and a range of community and social issues. If you would like more information on the teaching strategies used in order to best support your child to explore these issues, then please contact the Head Teacher PDHPE.

Participation in practical contexts: Uniform & Injuries

In Year 7, students will participate in 2 practical lessons and 2 theoretical lessons in each two-week cycle.

In Years 8-10 students will participate in 3 practical lessons and 2 theoretical lessons in each two-week cycle.

Uniform: The PDHPE syllabus contains mandatory outcomes related to practical performance and participation. As such, it is vital that students get changed in PE uniform for these lessons. This includes the school PE polo shirt and shorts and appropriate supportive footwear.
