Transitioning to High School
Starting high school is a significant and exciting milestone in every student’s education. At our school, we understand that this transition is unique for each student and family. Our goal is to ensure every child feels supported, prepared, and welcomed as they start their high school journey.
Getting Ready for High School
Moving from primary to high school comes with new experiences and opportunities. To support this transition, we offer orientation programs, information sessions, and activities that help students become familiar with our school, routines, and expectations. These programs help every incoming Year 7 student settle in confidently, whether they are coming from our feeder schools or joining us for other reasons.
Orientation Day – December 1
We are excited to welcome all incoming Year 7 students to our Orientation Day on December 1. This day offers a chance to:
- Tour the campus and discover key facilities
- Meet teachers and support staff
- Get to know fellow classmates
- Participate in fun ice-breakers and group activities
- Learn more about subjects, enrichment programs, and extracurricular opportunities
We encourage every new student to attend, regardless of their previous school. Our major feeder schools are Mount Annan Public School and Currans Hill Public School; however, we warmly welcome all students joining us from other schools and backgrounds.
Support Available
Our school’s support network includes:
- Year advisers and wellbeing staff ready to assist Year 7 students
- Peer support and mentoring programs to help with settling in and making new friends
- Access to counselling and wellbeing resources for any extra support needs
- Ongoing communication with parents and carers, including updates and information evenings
New Experiences and Opportunities
High school introduces students to greater independence, a wider selection of subjects, and numerous extracurricular activities. We encourage students to get involved in clubs, enrichment programs, sports, the arts, and leadership opportunities as part of their growth.
Academic Growth and Responsibility
Students learn important skills for managing their workload, organising their schedules, and setting personal goals. Our staff provide guidance to help students develop strong study habits, resilience, and a positive attitude towards learning.
Tips for a Smooth Transition
- Attend orientation events and ask questions about anything you're unsure of
- Keep organised using planners or calendars for homework and school events
- Make use of support networks, including teachers and student mentors
- Join school activities to make new friends and explore new interests
Parent and Carer Support
Parents and carers are essential to a smooth transition. By staying engaged with school communications, encouraging good routines at home, and supporting your child through changes in friendships and environments, you help them adjust and thrive.
