On the 12th February Mr de Gruchy attended the University of Wollongong to investigate the programs in STEM that are being taught to University students. A program designed for schools is called STEM Outreach and enables students to attend excursions, be involved in 3D Printing, Robotics, Virtual Reality and Coding. The university also provides learning spaces on the campus for students to use with real life activities which will assist them in establishing career paths in the Maths/Science and Engineering fields.
Some of the areas that were shown on the day are work spaces in Engineering, Electronics, Liquid Laboratory, Wind Tunnel, 3D Printing , Racing Car building and collaboration spaces.
Mount Annan High School is gradually implementing similar programs at the school with the recent purchase of 2 Flash Forge Guider II 3D printers and will be used initially in the Project Based Learning classes in Year 9 and rolled out through the various faculties.
There are also two year 7 Science classes attending the University of Wollongong in February to experience the activities in STEM.
